Non-ACET Direct Entry to Actuarial Science: Check Your Eligibility
Students who wish to pursue Actuarial Science through the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) may be eligible for admission without appearing for the ACET, provided they meet any of the qualifications specified by IAI.
According to the IAI document on Application for Student Membership, the following qualifications are eligible for Non-ACET Student Membership.
Who Can Apply Through Non-ACET Entry?
Students can apply for admission if they satisfy any one of the following criteria:
Professional & Management Qualifications
- Fully qualified member of ICAI – Institute of Chartered Accountants of India
- Fully qualified member of ICMAI – Institute of Cost Accountants of India
- Fully qualified member of ICSI – Institute of Company Secretaries of India
- MBA in Finance with a minimum of 60% or equivalent grade
- IIM Graduate
- IIT Graduate
- Fellow Member of the Insurance Institute of India
Actuarial & Related Qualifications
- B.Sc./M.Sc. in Actuarial Science from an institute/college
- B.Sc./M.Sc. Actuarial Science – qualified 1st year from Amity University
- Graduation and Post-Graduation Diploma in Actuarial Science (PGDAS) from Gujarat University
- Graduation and Post-Graduation Diploma in Actuarial Statistics
- B.Com in Actuarial Management affiliated to Bharathiar University
Indian Statistical Institute Qualifications
The document also lists the following qualifications from the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI):
- Bachelor of Statistics (Honours) – B Stat (Hons)
- Bachelor of Mathematics (Honours) – B Math (Hons)
- Master of Statistics – M Stat
- Master of Mathematics – M Math
- M.Sc. in Quantitative Economics – MS (QE)
- M.Sc. in Quality Management Science – MS (QMS)
Passed Actuarial Papers from Other Actuarial Bodies
Students who have passed two papers from certain other actuarial bodies are also listed as eligible. These include:
- Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA)
- Society of Actuaries (SOA)
- Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS)
- Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA)
- Institute of Actuaries of Australia (IAAust)
Important: Check Your Qualification Carefully
Non-ACET entry is qualification-based. A student must satisfy at least one of the eligibility criteria specified in the IAI document.
For example, an MBA in Finance requires a minimum of 60% or equivalent grade, while a B.E. from any institute also requires a minimum of 60% or equivalent grade.
Therefore, students should check their exact degree, institution, marks/grade, and applicable qualification criteria before applying.
How to Apply for Non-ACET Admission?
Eligible students can apply through the Student Membership Form applicable for NON-ACET students under the Admissions section of the IAI website.
The application process involves registration with basic details, OTP verification, completing the registration form, and uploading the required attested documents.
The document states that applicants need to upload documents such as:
- Proof of Date of Birth
- Photo ID Proof
- SSC/10th Mark Sheet
- HSC/12th Mark Sheet or applicable Diploma Marksheet
- Relevant qualification certificates
- Other actuarial body pass certificates, where applicable

If you already hold a qualifying degree or professional qualification, you may not need to take the ACET route for IAI student membership.
