In 2016, Ravi Vyas — an actuary who had worked through the system himself — watched too many bright, hardworking students get let down by coaching institutes that overpromised and underdelivered. High fees. Overcrowded classrooms. Faculty who taught theory but had never sat an actuarial exam. Students who paid once and were left alone when they failed.
On 1st October 2016, he opened S.MONK in Mumbai with a different philosophy: maximum 30 students per batch, personal attention for every student, and a promise that if you don't pass, you come back and study for free. Not as a marketing line — as a genuine commitment backed by real teaching confidence.

Ravi Vyas is the founder and heart of S.MONK. He built S.MONK out of a genuine frustration with the state of actuarial coaching in India — too many students being misled by overcrowded classrooms, unqualified faculty, and false salary promises. Since October 2016, he has personally taught thousands of students across CM1, CM2, CS1, CS2, CB1, and CB2.
What sets Ravi Sir apart is not just his technical mastery — it is his commitment to students as people. He has provided lodging to students who had nowhere to stay, answered doubts at midnight, and stood by students through multiple exam attempts without ever making them feel like a burden. The consistent theme in every alumni review is the same: he genuinely cares.
Pranay Sir brings a unique combination of rigorous engineering thinking and deep actuarial examination experience to his teaching. An engineer by training, he has spent over 10 years teaching actuarial science at some of Mumbai's most respected institutions — including R.A. Podar College of Commerce & Economics (an IAI-accredited institution), BASF at HSNC University, and BAQF at Jai Hind College.
With 6 actuarial examinations cleared himself, Pranay Sir knows exactly what the examiner is looking for — and teaches students to think that way. His structured, methodical approach and consistently high student pass rates have made him one of the most sought-after actuarial faculty members in Mumbai.
Gajanan Kharche is a seasoned actuarial professional with deep industry experience spanning Swiss Re, WNS Global Services, AXA Business Services, Principal Global Services, and JB Boda. An IAI qualified actuary and B.E. Information Technology graduate from Atharva College of Engineering, Mumbai, he brings real-world life insurance expertise directly into the classroom.
Gajanan's specialist expertise covers life insurance pricing and valuation, statutory reporting, surplus analysis, Solvency II, RBC frameworks, and Moody's Axis model development. He has led teams and delivered model development and automation across several of India's largest insurance and reinsurance operations. Students taking CS2 benefit directly from this hands-on experience.
Yash Prahladka holds one of the most impressive credential combinations of any actuarial faculty in India — FIAI (Fellow, Institute of Actuaries of India), FIA (Fellow, Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, UK), and CFA® charterholder. He is currently Associate Vice President — Actuarial at SBI Life Insurance, and brings active, senior-level industry experience to every class.
Previously at ICICI Prudential Life Insurance for over 5 years, Yash has hands-on experience in IFRS 17 implementation, product pricing and filing, Prophet model development, reinsurance treaty analysis, and experience studies. His B.Com (Finance & Accounting) from St. Xavier's College Kolkata gives him the financial rigour to make CM2 concepts genuinely accessible.
