Accessibility Statement

We want every student to be able to use SMONK — regardless of ability.

SMONK School of Actuaries is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance standard

Our target is Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, published by W3C. We aim for substantial conformance on all customer-facing pages — learner dashboard, shop, course pages, job portal, scholarship application, and marketing site.

Current status

SMONK is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA. Parts of the content may not fully conform to the guidelines. Known areas we are actively improving:

  • Colour-contrast ratios on some secondary text (target: ≥ 4.5:1 for body, 3:1 for large)
  • Keyboard navigation on custom tab and accordion components
  • Alt-text on all decorative and informative images
  • Captions and transcripts on video content
  • Screen-reader announcements for dynamic form errors

Feedback

Have you encountered a barrier? Let us know — we take accessibility reports seriously and prioritise fixes.

Technical standards

SMONK is built with HTML 5, CSS 3, and progressive-enhancement JavaScript. Core content is accessible without JavaScript. We test with the latest versions of:

  • Screen readers: NVDA, VoiceOver (macOS / iOS), TalkBack (Android)
  • Browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge (last 2 major versions)
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Zoom up to 200% without loss of content or function
